Now, you have your fresh new tattoo & you want to take good care of it!
From this point on, a tattoo artist is not responsible for any infection or problems you may have with your tattoo if you don't take proper care of it. It is important that you follow these guidelines.
- Leave That Cover Alone! for a minimum of two hours after I cover it up, it's still a wound & can get infected.
- Wash & Treat using lukewarm water & mild, liquid antibacterial soap to gently wash away any ointment & blood & to completely clean the area. Do not use a washcloth or anything abrasive & pat (do not rub) the area firmly with a CLEAN towel or paper towel to get it completely dry. Follow with a very light application of Bepanthen cream twice a day for 2 weeks.
- Don't Soak It! you can (and should!) shower with a new tattoo as long as you don't saturate it. Avoid swimming for at least 2 weeks.
- Scabbing and Peeling you will probably scab or peel over it, maybe itch like a sunburn don't pick, and don't scratch! It is part of the healing process & will come off on its own, scratch it & you could damage it.
- Protection from the sun you will always want to protect it with a 30SPF sunblock from the sun's UV rays that can fade a tattoo . This will keep it vibrant for many years.
